Open Problem 18

Proximity and Obligation

How should distance weigh in giving, and what do givers choose when they see honest comparisons?

Status: open
What would count as progress

Experimental evidence on how givers allocate with and without comparisons, alongside a clear account of the moral positions.

Why it matters

The Proximity Pull is partly a moral question and partly an information gap. The information gap can be closed, and then we can see what people choose.

Where to start

A scoped survey experiment could test how comparisons across distance affect choices, with its cost and limits stated. The moral side is mapped in the Disagreement Register.
