Browser Extension

Puts the Giver’s Checklist on donation pages and one click away everywhere else, with a lookup in the open charity registries. Collects nothing.

Before You Give

Chrome, Edge and Firefox · collects nothing

What it does

  • On fundraiser pages from GoFundMe, JustGiving and Every.org, it shows a small card with three questions and a “Look it up” button.
  • Anywhere, clicking its icon opens the full ten-question Giver’s Checklist and a lookup pre-filled with the page title.
  • It has no analytics or background data transmission. Search text stays in the browser until you choose an external registry.

Install it

  1. Unzip the download.
  2. Chrome or Edge: open chrome://extensions, turn on Developer mode, choose Load unpacked and select the unzipped folder.
  3. Firefox: open about:debugging#/runtime/this-firefox, choose Load Temporary Add-on and pick manifest.json.

Store packages and listing materials are prepared. Submission and store approval are still pending; use a developer install for now. Firefox requires version 140 or later.

What you’ll see

Why an extension

The extension brings three questions to a donation page: symptom or source, what would happen anyway, and how anyone would know if it worked. It offers a pause to think about the system behind a gift, including the debated effects described in the Story Bias.

Privacy by construction

The extension reads the page title to suggest a lookup, and the lookup opens only when you click. The name travels after #q= in the address, which stays in your browser instead of entering the page request. It makes no background network requests, has no analytics and stores one thing: the sites where you chose to hide the card. Its permissions are activeTab, which lets the popup read the active tab when you click the icon, and storage. Read the privacy notice or inspect the source.

What it isn’t

It doesn’t rate charities or fundraisers. The card can be dismissed, and it does not alter the donation form or handle money.
